2019 Election News: Combined City/School Elections set for Tuesday, November 5, 2019
Posted Date:
Every Decatur County voter, regardless of the school district in which s/he resides, will now cast a ballot for school board members at his/her General Election polling place.

The law for combining school and city elections goes into effect on July 1, 2019.  The 2019 City/School Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5.  The new law removed the option to open the polls at Noon and now requires all polls for the city/school election to be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

With this change in the law, school elections now stop at county lines, which means every Decatur County voter, regardless of the school district in which s/he resides, will now cast a ballot for school board members at the Decatur County polling place listed below (your General Election polling place).

The filing officer for school board candidates/public measures is the School Secretary.  The County Auditor remains the filing officer for city council candidates/public measures.  A person can file to be on the ballot for a city office and school board office at the same election.

The ballot will include the voter’s city races/public measures, if applicable, then school races/public measures, followed by community college races/public measures.

For each race, the order of candidate names will be determined by lot on the second business day following the candidate filing deadline; there will be no rotation of candidate names.
