Decatur County will be accepting applications for the position of “Mechanic I.” Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma, or GED equivalent, and a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire. A Class A CDL is also acceptable. Applicants must be able to pass the following: driving record screening, pre-employment physical examination, background check, and drug test.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform assigned duties, such as but not limited to: inventory, building maintenance, organization of yard, assisting shop and associated duties, and other related duties as required.
Job duties include, but are not limited to, activities such as lifting and moving heavy objects, operating construction equipment, perform service on vehicles such as mount snow plows and sanders, change and repair tires, maintain records of work done, truck driving, snow plow operation, and other activities related to road maintenance. Applicant should be comfortable working outside in both hot and cold weather, and have the physical capacity to work with large heavy objects/equipment for a full work day.
Applicants must have a strong work ethic and desire to learn new skills. An ideal applicant is someone with the above qualifications and experience that is a hard worker, works well with coworkers and the public, and enjoys working outside.
