 Decatur County considers applications for Election 

 Workers on an ongoing basis. 

 Interested? 

    Just complete the brief application form (right).

 

Qualifications to serve:

 * Be registered to vote in Decatur County

 * Not be an opposed candidate or closely related to any opposed candidate on the

    ballot

 * Have energy and stamina for a long day

 * Enjoy people and service to others

 * Willing to attend trainings

 

Duties of an election worker:

 * Attend a training before each election, required for Primary and General

    Elections

 * Arrive at the polling location one hour before polls open to set up the polling place

    and voting equipment

 * Check that voters are qualified to vote

 * Instruct voters how to use the voting equipment

 * Close the polling place and report the results after the polls close

 * Complete paperwork and clean up polling area

 

Compensation:

 * Election workers are paid $9.00 per hour for their work at the polls and for time

    spent at the training session (Precinct Co/Chairs are paid $9.50 per hour for their work at the polls)

 * Mileage is also paid (rate varies, as it is set by Board of Supervisors on a monthly

    basis)

 

When elections are held:

 * Elections in Iowa are always held on a Tuesday

 * SCHOOL/CITY elections are held on the first Tuesday in November of odd-numbered years. 

    Polls are open 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

 * PRIMARY elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June

    of even-numbered years.  Polls are open 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. statewide.

 * GENERAL elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in

    November of even-numbered years.  Polls are open 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

    statewide.

 * SPECIAL school, city or county elections to fill a vacancy or to vote on a public

    measure may be called throughout the year and are also held on Tuesdays.

Serving as an Election Worker is a truly rewarding experience.  It's a great opportunity to get involved.  Work full-time but still want to participate?  Talk to your employer - much like jury duty, many companies allow for paid time off for their employees who serve as Election Workers.  The work is easy - and it's important!  Fill out the form (above,  right) or contact the Auditor's Office today!
