School elections now stop at county lines, which means every Decatur County voter, regardless of the school district in which s/he resides, will now cast a ballot for school board members at the Decatur County polling place listed below (your General Election polling place).

Monday, August 26

Candidate filing period begins for city and school candidates:

* City candidates file with County Auditor

* School candidates file with School Board Secretary

Monday, September 2 Labor Day.  County offices closed.
Thursday, September 19, at 5:00 p.m.

Candidate filing period ends for city and school candidates at 5:00 p.m.:

* City candidates file with County Auditor

* School candidates file with School Board Secretary

Friday, September 20

Deadline for city clerks to file full text of public measures to be placed on ballot with County Auditor by Noon.

 

Deadline for school secretaries to deliver all nomination petitions and text of public measures to County Auditor by Noon.

Tuesday, September 24

City candidate withdrawal/objection deadline.  File with County Auditor.

 

School candidate withdrawal/objection deadline.  File with School Board Secretary.

 Absentee voting in the Auditor's Office will begin as soon as the ballots are received from the vendor.
Monday, November 4, 5:00 p.m. Last day to vote absentee in the County Auditor's Office.
Tuesday, November 5 Regular City/School Elections Day.  Polls open 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Monday, November 11 Veterans Day.  County offices closed.
Tuesday, November 12 1st tier County canvass of votes.  (Final canvass if jurisdiction is in only one county.)
Monday, November 18 2nd tier county canvass of votes. (Final canvass if jurisdiction is in more than one county.)

    Campaign Finance Overview Memo from the Iowa Ethics Board

     

    City candidates must be eligible electors of the city at the time of filing nomination papers and at the time of the election.

     

    Signature Requirements:

    For cities with a population between 100-3,499: at least 10

    (All cities in Decatur County, except LeRoy & Pleasanton)

     

    For cities with a population less than 100: at least 5

    (LeRoy & Pleasanton)
